Water Leaks and Mold are Common Home Concerns
Water is incredibly destructive in a house, even if it is just a small leak. When small leaks persist for long enough, they cause rotting and mold. A leak may come from a plumbing pipe, leaky fixture or appliance, a hole in the roof, or a crack in the foundation. If you see or smell the signs of a leak or mold, address it right away. This is a common home concern that will only get worse the longer it is allowed to go on.
Poor Air Quality
The only signs you might notice of poor indoor air quality at home are health symptoms. If you have respiratory problems at home and not in other places, it may have to do with chemicals or mold spores in the home’s air.
Allergies, headaches, and trouble breathing are all signs of poor air quality. Check the humidity levels of the home, clean to remove dust, add an air purifier, and have the house tested for radon for good measure.
Vulnerable to Break-Ins
Weak or faulty locks on doors and windows threaten your home’s security. Install deadbolts on exterior doors and make sure that window locks latch securely. When your property is dark at night, it is easier for criminals to hide while approaching your house. Use outdoor motion-sensor lights to make your home less vulnerable.
Termites can cause a lot of damage without any visible signs of what’s going on. Since termites damage building materials from the inside out, there could be considerable damage to structural components before it is ever visible. Prevention and catching termites early are key. Have annual termite inspections and keep piles of wood and mulch away from your home.
Electrical Hazards are Common Home Concerns
Faulty electrical systems are one of the main causes of house fires. Burning or fishy smells indicate overheating of wiring and should be investigated by an electrician. Flickering lights throughout may be due to loose connections, while a single flickering light is likely just an issue with the bulb or fixture. Pay attention to any strange signs going on with the electricity in your home.
